  • October Meeting recap

    I am posting the email I sent out to the group here for two reasons: 1. In case it got caught in your spam bucket. 2. Make it easy to start a conversation about any of the items in the meeting recap.

    Now to the meeting follow-up.

    1. We tried something a little different at the meeting and allowed members to join the Teams meeting so they could participate live. Unfortunately, we were experiencing audio issues even though the video quality was great. Most dropped off. See notes below for more info on this.
    2. In spite of the audio issues our presenter – Chuck Sterling – from the product team was able to fix it and has a clean version online of his 50 minute session.     3. One of the questions that went unanswered at the meeting was – I know how to make technically sound canvas apps, but I now need them to look good but I haven’t found any design tips. Well the good news is I have found a great resource for this topic and I will be reaching out to her to see if she can present at our next meeting.
    4. Name Change – in case you missed it, Microsoft Flow is no more. It is Power Automate, in part to now embrace the new UI flows. Flow hasn’t gone away, it is now the name for the process and not the product. We will likely need to re-name our group?
    5. Meeting critique – We have 69 people on our mailing list, 27 people registered, and 16 attended. Almost a 50% drop off. We had some good q&a after the presentation, but it seemed like most of the attendee interaction occurred after the meeting was adjourned. I think we can do better at adding even more value.

    A few weeks ago the other group leaders – Summer Anderson and David Craig and I got on a call to chat about our first year as a UG and a look forward.

    Some of the items we discussed were:

    • The idea of having lunch as an option prior to the meeting so attendees have made more of a commitment; plus people like the networking piece so they may appreciate the lunch time
    • Having a virtual teams meeting available for attendees that are outside a certain radius.
    • Trying to have some participation at the coming local Saturday group. See Level Up! Below.
    • Roundtable time as part of the meeting, not just Q&A in classroom style.
    • Licensing changes may be creating some hesitation for businesses to do a wider rollout so people have some level of personal interest in attending the meetings and staying current with the topics.

     So to put it together:

    1. We will have our next meeting in early March. We will let you know the date shortly.
    2. Registration will be through Eventbrite.com which is a lot less cumbersome than the UG portal, especially for people who aren’t members of the UG.
    3. It will be held at Children’s Hospital Association.
    4. We will do another test run of letting people join in virtually who are out of the immediate vicinity of the event venue. However, we want to avoid having 5 people showing up in person and everyone else dialing in.
    5. Probably build an optional lunch (paid by attendees) into the event.
    6. In addition to the technical training component, have a panel discussion about how people are using the technology, and roundtable time for peer to peer small group conversations.
    7. Slant the focus of presentations a little more in the direction to improve personal professional growth.
